Susan fell in love with music at an early age.

Through piano lessons, voice lessons, school performances and church services, music was an integral part of her experiences growing up.

She studied music and elementary education at Calvin College, toured Europe with their top choir, played piano for Grand Rapids Ballet rehearsals and is an elementary music teacher in a local public school district.

Her music career took a fresh turn in 2015 when she auditioned for a local band called Mid-Life Crisis, performing with them for 7 years at events like Barley, Barbecue & Beats at Van Andel Arena and the release party at "20 Monroe" for their original album entitled "It's About Time". Susan joined The Reason in 2021 with former band mates, Tom and Jeff, and continues to celebrate the energy of live music performance.

I received my first guitar when I was 10 years old and immediately started trying to learn how the instrument worked. I slowly figured out how to play familiar tunes, picking them out one note at a time... and within a couple years, I became fairly proficient at playing a wide variety of music (even trying my hand at writing a few songs that can only be described as “fairly horrible”).

Fast forward 5-6 years and trying out for local bands, such as The Wayland Rock Band, a “Chicago” style band with a full horn section and multiple singers.  Through the years I have performed in a number of bands including;  Ally, Warrior, Impulse, CoverStory, Mid-Life Crisis, Sweet Justice and The Reason. I've been fortunate as a member of those bands to be able to perform on stage  in some of the best venues throughout West Michigan.  Van Andel Arena, Meijer Gardens, 20 Monroe Live, The Intersection, The Cannonsburg Concert Series, to name a few.

In my off time I record my own original music in my home studio while working with a wide range of talented artists, making music as much as time allows!

Lee Nelson

drums/vocals/percussion

Lee started "beating on things" at the tender age of 14 and got his first drum set at 15.  He played in rock bands throughout high school and college, but stopped for about 10 years while starting his work career and a family.  In the early 1990s,

Lee started playing out again and was the co-founder of the Muskegon-area classic rock band Off The Record.  The band performed at every type of club and outdoor event, and opened for Steppenwolf at Muskegon's Summer Celebration and Survivor at the Fremont Baby Food Festival in the late-90s. Band members changed often, but the last member lineup included keyboardist Carl Nelson (who is in The Reason band...).

In 2013, Off The Record was dissolved and two of its members formed the Jaded 8 band.  This rock trio plays rock hits from the late 70s to early 90s, and regularly performs in bars, for corporate events, and at area festivals  Lee still plays with this classic rock band about once a month.
